Description
The Pelham Flex single-jointed short combines direct contact with light leverage and distributes pressure on mouth, poll and chin. The Flex material ensures softer contact and promotes comfort, acceptance and clear communication.
Made of a firm, non-toxic synthetic material the surface stays smooth and safe while offering maximum clarity of aids. The material is free from harmful substances and suitable for long-term use. It avoids the cold and hard feel of traditional metal bits and is thus a thoughtful choice for riders who need clearer communication.
The single-jointed mouthpiece creates a more direct and straightforward connection and transfers rein aids clearly. When the reins are taken up the joint forms a V-shape that distributes pressure on tongue and bars. This design is particularly suitable for horses with a higher palate, as the single joint lies centrally in the mouth without exerting excessive pressure towards the palate. Many horses appreciate the clear and straightforward feel of a single-jointed bit, especially horses that prefer a bit with a clearly defined point of action and constant contact.
The Pelham cheeks are short and create mild leverage that can be controlled more easily by the rider. Used with two pairs of reins — or converters — it gives the rider the option to adjust the aids precisely. The upper ring is attached to the cheekpiece of the bridle, while the lower ring forms the lever point. A curb chain can also be used to stabilise the bit and distribute pressure more evenly.

Care & use
Rinse the bit with warm water after every ride and dry with a soft cloth. Over time Sweet Iron develops a light patina — a natural oxidation process that improves taste and acceptance. Store dry and check regularly for smooth and even wear.
Make sure the bit is correctly positioned: the star must be on the left side and the Velari logo on the right side.
